Nick Gascoigne. Designer. Sydney.
I used to build custom content management systems (CMS), and still can on request, but I have found that ExpressionEngine, a commercial CMS, offers the most value for my clients.
It is very flexible and allows me to lead with the design first and fit the CMS to the specific project needs, rather than shoehorning a design into rigid templates that some other systems require.
Features include event calendars, galleries, booking forms and of course categorised blog entries. I have used it most frequently for showcases and folios. Users can easily shuffle content, feature it on the home page or filter it by category.
Licence costs are $300 US for a commercial licence and I usually allow an extra $100 for add-ons specific to the project.
Of course your project will be set up differently, but a lot of the interface elements will be the same. View in full screen at 1080HD to see the small details.
